Meet the man who put the "Del" in "Delswife"

Del and I have been together going on 11 years now. He is a little younger than me and a little older than my oldest child. He has never tried to be a "father figure" to any of my kids because- they are my kids and nobody is going to step into my life and tell me how to raise them and he has proven that it's not a good idea anyway.

Many years ago my daughter Nikki went to Del and told on my son Chris. (I wasn't home- I was probably at work- because I was always at freaking work)

The problem she had was that Chris had locked her out of the house after school and she was pissed off about it. She looked through the mailbox slot to see if Chris was inside only to get an eyeful of a naked girl in our living room.

Del confronted Chris about it. "Look dude, we don't have to get your mom involved" he started with "But no naked girls in the living room, okay? That's where we all sit and that is gross."

So this is the kind of advice Del gives my kids- not your typical parental advice. I found out months later and it was an accidental slip of the tongue. He said he couldn't tell me about it because he had been swore to secrecy by the kids.

So anyway, he are a few past stories about Del, so you get to know him a little better.

I love him, I mean it. They aren't in any particular order.

The 6 year old box of cereal he thought I'd be excited about finding in our house.

Isn't it interesting that the only picture of Del where we can see all of his face is him showing off his uniform! LOL Thanks for sharing Del with us Robin!

I loved reading this and going and reading the other posts about Del. I was a big fan of your "original" trip report years ago back on the DISboards. It dawned on me last week that by now, you probably have a blog. I've subscribed now and love feeling like I'm catching up with an old friend!

I had a step mother who was quite a bit younger than my father. She took a very similar approach to step parenting and I am very thankful for it.

We're turned out to be pretty good friends now that I'm an adult.

He sounds like a great guy, Robin. I think he looked ok in that hat and I would have been scared to call him on the cell phone too if he reacts like that!

I just went and read the bee story.. I think if that were me and I felt a bee in my sleep I wouldn't be alive today to tell about it. I hate when bugs get in my house. We have an old storage room attached to my house and it was really made with the wrong materials so bugs get it in. When I open the door to the storage room sometimes we'll let a palmetto bug into the house and then if I don't catch it I am sleepless for nights! I'd rather have a tree frog in bed with me.

Del sounds really cool.. actually u all do!
